What is not covered in Mediclaim?

Mediclaim, also known as health insurance, covers various medical expenses related to hospitalization, surgeries, treatments, and procedures. However, there are certain situations and medical expenses that may not be covered by mediclaim. Some common examples include:

  1. Pre-existing medical conditions: Most health insurance policies have a waiting period before pre-existing medical conditions are covered. During this waiting period, any medical expenses related to pre-existing conditions are not covered.
  2. Cosmetic surgeries: Any cosmetic or plastic surgeries that are not medically necessary are typically not covered by mediclaim.
  3. Experimental or unproven treatments: If a treatment or procedure is still in the experimental phase and is not yet proven to be effective, it may not be covered by mediclaim.
  4. Alternative therapies: Some health insurance policies do not cover alternative therapies such as acupuncture or naturopathy.
  5. Non-medical expenses: Expenses that are not related to medical treatment, such as food, telephone charges, or transportation, may not be covered by mediclaim.
  6. Injuries due to risky activities: If the policyholder gets injured while participating in risky activities such as adventure sports or hazardous work, the medical expenses may not be covered.

It is important to carefully read and understand the terms and conditions of the mediclaim policy to know exactly what is covered and what is not.
